Does DevaCurl hair products really work on black hair?
DevaCurl makes hair products for all hair types. In fact, if you visit their website or social media page you will find women of all hair types. However, while most companies have great intentions to be inclusive, sometimes the ingredients they use in their products just do not work with the kinkiest hair types.
In this post, I will be debunking the myth that DevaCurl hair products are not from black hair.
I was fortunate enough to receive a huge PR box from DevaCurl. It was full of some of my favorite DevaCurl products and other products I have not tried. Since receiving the PR box I have been able to try all the products in the Decadence line as well as a ton of other DevaCurl products.
In this post, I will be sharing whether or not Devacurl is for black hair. Now DevaCurl is EXPENSIVE. However, DevaCurl has quite a few products that are true gems that work great on kinky hair textures.

DevaCurl Pre-Shampoos
Wash Day Wonder $28-$60
If you can only purchase one DevaCurl product I highly recommend it be the wash day wonder. This product was one of my favorite products in 2018. I used to hate detangling my hair because it is super thick and kinky. Having this product in my stash has made detangling my super thick type 4 hair a breeze.
This product quickly melts away any knots or tangles. The slip this product gives you is insane. Don’t believe me check out the video down below to see for yourself.
This product lasted me about two months which is pretty good for a product that I used strictly for detangling. A typical detangling conditioner normally lasts me about three wash days.
DevaCurl Shampoos
No-Poo Decadence $10-$46
This product claims to help deliver moisture, strength, and protection to your curls. It is a gentle cleanser so it will not leave your curls feeling stripped of moisture.
This product contains chufa milk and quinoa protein which helps provide moisture and nourishment to your hair and scalp.
I find that this product is best for co-washing purposes for me. As a shampoo, it does not cleanse my scalp enough.
I use a lot of products that are butter and cream based, so by the end of the week my hair can be pretty heavy and weighed down.
This product just does not get my scalp as clean as I would like. However, it is the perfect product for a quick mid-week wash day.
Now, if you like your cleansing products to lather than this will not be the product for you. This product has little to no lather.
I know a lot of naturals actually still enjoy the lather from shampoos. Personally, this is not a repurchase for me because the cost is way too much for shampoo to me.
Build Up Buster $28-$84
Not a fan of the bentonite clay mask then this product is a great alternative. This product claims to help remove buildup from products, hard water, or environmental stressors.
My scalp always feels so much lighter after using this product. Another Pro of this product is unlike a clarifying shampoo which can leave your hair feeling dry and stripped; your hair will still feel moisturizing after using this product.
DevaCurl Conditioners
One Condition Decadence $10-$46
Another favorite Devacurl product of mine. This product is worth the hype. In fact, I was taken by surprise just how awesome this product was.
This product will give you great slip as well as provide moisture, strength, nourishment, and protection to your curls. After shampooing, your hair can feel a little dry or strip. This product will help restore that moisture that you lost from shampooing.
Although this is a pricey conditioner a little of this stuff goes a long way. I have not even put a dent in my bottle. This product also works well as co-wash for mid-week moisture.
I find myself reaching for this product when I want to do a wash n go mid-week when I want to give my hair a little moisture boost for the rest of the week.
Devacurl Deep Conditioners
Heaven in the Hair $28-$44
Not my favorite Devacurl deep conditioner, but still a solid deep conditioner.
I think this deep conditioner is a solid deep conditioner for those who are the type 3 hair range. I don’t believe this deep conditioner packs enough punch to penetrate the strands of type 4 hair.
I found that I did have to leave this deep conditioner on longer than usual in order for it to semi penetrate my strands.
However, if you like to deep conditioner overnight this deep conditioner might be for you.
Besides that this deep conditioner has an amazing slip and you will literally be able to easily finger detangling using this deep conditioner.

Melt into Moisture $36-$64
I absolutely love this deep conditioner. This deep conditioner is very thick and it best to apply on soaking wet hair.
Applying this product on damp hair will cause you to use way too much product and at $36 dollars a jar; you do not want to waste any product. This product contains matcha butter which helps retains moisture and seal your cuticle so the moisture can stay intact. If you have color treated hair Beet Root extract will help improve elasticity and protect the color in your hair.
This deep conditioner can be used as a quick moisture boost, or if in need of more moisture you can apply it for 15 to 20 mins with or without heat or overnight.
Devacurl Stylers
Super Stretch $30
Type 4 hair loves to shrink. It is one of the most noticeable characteristics of type 4 hair. While I enjoy and love my shrinkage, sometimes I want to show off my length. This product is perfect for that.
Now I do not believe this product is an effective moisturizer and in my opinion, it should be pair with your favorite leave-in.
The first time I used this product I used it as a leave-in and while my hair was elongated it was super dry. But on second use and pairing it with one of my favorite leave-in the product was able to perform perfectly.
I still have many more Devacurl products to try, so if I missed a product that you were hoping to find in this post, please bookmark this post as I will be updating it the more products I try.
I’ve never thought about purchasing this product. Thanks for your in-depth review. I may have to get my hands on some Devacurl products soon.
