If you have been following my youtube channel then you know the last quarter of 2018 I posted a few videos sharing my frustrations about how my natural hair not growing.
I have been natural for four years now and feel like the length of my hair does not reflect.
Admittedly, I have become super lazy with my natural hair.
As doing my hair became more of a lifestyle I stop paying attention to the changes my hair was making and what was no longer working for my hair.
This resulted in no length retention in 2018. Therefore, 2019 for me is all about relearning my hair, so that I can see as much length retention as possible.

CHANGE NUMBER #1: DETANGLING
I actually started this journey to turn my hair around in 2018 by changing my detangling routine or should I say incorporating a detangling routine.
For the longest, I refused to throughly detangle my hair and convinced myself that I did not need to even though I have thick type 4 natural hair.
After purchasing a new detangling tool, I decided that I wanted to start detangling my hair with conditioner prior to shampooing.
This routine has been working extremely well for me and I find myself losing less hair. You can find my full Detangling Routine here.
CHANGE NUMBER #2: KEEPING A HAIR DIARY
In January I decided that I wanted to document my hair in detail by keeping a hair diary. I figured the best way to determine what works and does not is by documenting it.
Also, I want to keep a hair diary to come up with an actual regimen outside of wash days. This year I want to do certain things, i.e., trimming and clarifying, on a set schedule.
This diary will help me remember when I last did certain things with my hair.

This hair diary will also help me get an idea of what products keep my hair moisturized through the week and what products do not.
By knowing what products actually moisturize my hair (1) I will save a lot more money because I’m purchasing products that will actually work and (2) it help me minimize the amount of time touching my hair.
I will be documenting this process using google docs and decided to make it public for those of you who are interested. You can find my hair diary at this link here.
